£650.00
A 19th century tapestry cartoon depicting a pastoral scene with lush greenery in the foreground and a large house by a lake in the background. This type of design layering was a recurring practice in tapestries of the period. The colours have retained their depth and vibrancy. The shape of the design suggests the final tapestry was used on the seat of an armchair. There are annotations surrounding the design, including 'Chaise 1647'.
Gouache on thick paper. From Aubusson, Central France.
Visible signs of wear commensurate with use and age. Sold as seen, unframed.
(W86.5cm x H70cm)
