Return & Refund Policy

Thank you for shopping at The French House York. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please get in touch with us, with your full name, item(s) purchased and the reason for the return, no later than 28 days (4 full calendar weeks) from the date you received your item.

If the request is submitted within 14 days of receiving the item, you are eligible for a full refund, exchange or store credit against a future purchase.

If the request is submitted between 14 – 28 days after receiving the item, you are no longer eligible for a refund, but you can exchange it or get store credit against a future purchase. Store credits are valid for 24 months.

If you submit your return request after 28 days, you will no longer be eligible to return the item, nor can we provide you with a refund, exchange or store credit.

The above clauses are valid on the condition that the returned item is undamaged / unaltered / in the same condition as when it was delivered. Refunds, exchanges and store credit only refer to the cost of the item alone and exclude delivery fees.

If you would like to return an item, the full transport of the item back to our showroom in York, must be arranged and paid by you. The item must be in the same condition as when it was delivered to you, undamaged, unaltered and in saleable condition to be entitled to a refund, exchange or store credit (as detailed above). If your return is approved, we will initiate a refund via bank transfer. You will receive the credit within a certain amount of days, depending on your bank’s policies.

If the item is damaged due to mis-use or lack of care in transit, you are liable to cover the cost of repair. Once we receive your item, we will inspect it and notify you that we have received your returned item. We will only process the refund – if applicable – once the item has been returned to our showroom, undamaged, unaltered and fully inspected.

 

Exchanges

If you would like to exchange an item, you can do so by notifying us within 28 days of receiving the item. If you exchange it for a higher priced piece, we will invoice you for the difference in price, prior to delivery. If you exchange it for a lower priced piece, the remaining amount will automatically turn into store credit which is valid for 24 months. All collection and delivery charges of your items must be paid by you.

 

Reserve Policy

We offer a 7-day reserve policy, meaning you can reserve any stock item, subject to availability, for up to 7 days. If you'd like to keep the item on reserve for a longer period of time, please contact us as soon as possible and within the allocated 7 days to inform us. Please note that we reserve the right to decline the request for an extension of the reserve period. 

When you reserve an item and another customer expresses interest within the 7 days of your reserve, we would contact you first to ask whether you wish to proceed with the purchase or wish to release the item. A swift response from your end is highly appreciated. After 7 days, if you have not informed us of your wish to proceed with the purchase, the item will automatically come off reserve and made available again. We may or may not contact you to follow up on your enquiry. It is your responsibility to contact us with your decision regarding the reserved item(s).

 

Delivery Policy

We can provide delivery quotes and organise the collection and delivery of your purchase for you. In order for us to arrange delivery, we require the full payment of the item(s). Please note that, while we strive to keep to the agreed delivery schedule, your delivery may be postponed on the day, due to unforeseen circumstances, outside of our control. 

If you would like to arrange delivery yourself, please let us know at the time of purchase. If you arrange a collection from our showroom, please ensure your courier is aware of our opening times (Monday – Saturday, 10:00am – 5:00pm). Outside of these times, we cannot guarantee the item can be collected, and we are not responsible for any of your transport arrangements. 

The French House York is not responsible for any damage caused to the item in transit. We work with a network of trusted couriers, who are fully insured and take great care when transporting and delivering each item. If you decide to use your own transport service from our showroom to your delivery location, The French House York is not liable for any damage, loss or inconvenience from the moment the piece leaves our showroom in York. It is your responsibility to ensure your courier has the appropriate insurance.

Prior to confirming your purchase and delivery, please ensure the item can fit through doorways / tight staircases to access the intended space. If you are unsure about this, please let us know in advance and we can discuss this matter prior to delivery. The French House York is not liable if an item does not fit or cannot access the intended space.

Delivery is by default to the ground floor. If you require us to deliver to a higher or lower floor, please let us know so we can inform our courier accordingly. This may incur an additional moving fee.

 

Storage

If you purchase an item but cannot accommodate it at the point of purchase, we can store it for you free of charge for a maximum of 28 days (4 full calendar weeks). If you require storage for a longer time period, this will incur a storage fee, calculated per item, per week, as detailed below:

  • For small-sized items; such as small brocante items, lamps, tableware, soft furnishings, and small mirrors (< 50cm high) - £10 per week.
  • For medium-sized items; such as side tables, single wooden chairs, ceiling lights, medium-sized mirrors (50cm – 100cm high), bedside cabinets, storage units < 1m in height or width, medium-sized brocante items - £25 per week.
  • For large items; such as large mirrors (above 100cm high), upholstered furniture (incl. armchairs, ottomans, sofas), beds, storage units above 1m in height or width, washstands, standard lamps, farmhouse/dining tables, sets of chairs - £50 per week.

Items for hire

We are happy to loan some of our stock items as props, for occasions such as photoshoots or filming.

The standard rate hiring one or more items is 20% of the ticket price of each item, for up to one week. If you wish to hire the item(s) for a longer period of time, please contact us with your requirements and we will provide you with a quote.

The person / company hiring will be invoiced for the full amount of each piece, and upon the safe return of the items (in the same condition as before the hire), a refund of 80% of the full amount will be returned. If any of the items are lost, damaged or broken, we reserve the right to charge the person / company the full RRP for those items, which will consequently be reflected in the refund, if applicable.

The person / company hiring the items is fully responsible for the care of the items for the entire duration of the hire (i.e. from the moment the item leaves our York showroom to the moment it is returned to our York showroom), and liable for any damage made to the item.
