From a chateau in the Loire Valley that had a private chapel, we believe owing to the extreme firmness of it, that it was used for kneeling on.
The insides are derived of a fibre which make it solid to the touch.
It has a small tear on one of the corners (see photo). In otherwise good vintage condition.
