We bought this bench from the owner of the house it was made for (see the last photo).
In 1956 her parents provided an 18th century oak cupboard to a local cabinet maker, tasking him with creating a bespoke bench with storage for their home on the Brittany coast.
He clearly did a fabulous job, with perfectly aligned seat lids and jointing throughout.
It’s a beautiful, unique, piece from an equally beautiful and unique corner of France.
