From a vineyard in Sancerre we have this superb, and very tall, wine press screw.
The main spiral column is hand carved and the cut out in the base was originally where a lever or handle slotted to turn the screw which crushed the grapes during the wine making process.
Heavy! These now make highly decorative display or plant stands.
